Lil’ Growers began in 2018 as a way to inspire local children to learn about the watermelon growing process and spark excitement for carrying on Luling’s proud agricultural tradition. What started as a simple idea has grown into a beloved community event, bringing together grandparents, parents, friends, and young growers ages 1–14.

The process is simple and full of fun: register in February, receive your official seed packet, share progress photos from March through June, and join us on Sunday of Watermelon Thump — melon or no melon!

On Sunday, under the big pavilion, we celebrate their hard work with awards for:

• Growers Showmanship (based on monthly progress photos)

• Thumper’s Showmanship (best in show during weigh-in)

• 1st & 2nd Heaviest Melon in each age group

Best of all, this event is completely FREE to register, participate, and attend.

Lil’ Growers isn’t just about growing watermelons — it’s about growing confidence, responsibility, and the next generation of Thump tradition.
